Half-Life Alyx Now Available To Play Without VR

The NoVR project, which has been under development for the last two years, recently entered early access and is nearing its official release. Developed by a small mod group called GB2, the project has reached its final stages and now allows the game to be played entirely without VR. Although there are minor issues with the mod, they are not game-breaking, and the development team has stated that these issues, such as unattainable achievements, will be addressed in upcoming updates.

NoVR is not the only non-VR mod for Half-Life: Alyx, but it is among the easiest to implement and has the fewest in-game issues compared to other mods. The development team advises players to copy the mod folders into the game's main directory to enable the No VR mode. The fact that this mod is so simple to apply and contains so few errors is another piece of good news for players.

For those unfamiliar with Half-Life: Alyx, it is a first-person shooter computer game developed and published by Valve Corporation. The game is a spin-off of the popular "Half-Life" series and is considered the third main installment of the franchise. Released on March 23, 2020, for Microsoft Windows on Virtual Reality (VR) platforms, players control the familiar character Alyx Vance from the Half-Life series. The events take place before those of Half-Life 2, in a dystopian world ruled by creatures called the Combine. In the game, Alyx and her father Eli Vance lead a resistance against the Combine and strive to uncover the creatures' secrets.
