In an unexpected turn of events, some Assassin's Creed players found themselves facing in-game advertisements for Ubisoft's Black Friday sales while immersed in older Assassin's Creed titles earlier this week. However, Ubisoft is adamant that this was not a deliberate marketing strategy.

The issue came to light when a Reddit user, triddell24, shared a video capturing the unexpected advert within Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The video, later shared on Twitter by user Fab on X, showcased a scenario where the player attempted to open the map in the game, only to be confronted with an advertisement for Assassin's Creed Mirage at a discounted rate of 20% in the Black Friday sales.

The advert urged players to "Take advantage of 20% off on the latest game in the series," presenting them with the options to either close the ad or proceed to "buy now," presumably leading to a link to the console's store.

Ubisoft, however, swiftly denied any intentional marketing ploy and attributed the occurrence to a technical error. A spokesperson for Ubisoft informed, "We have been made aware that some players encountered pop-up ads while playing certain Assassin’s Creed titles yesterday. This was the result of a technical error that we addressed as soon as we learned of the issue." The statement did not elaborate on the nature of the technical glitch responsible for the unintended advertisements.

This incident has raised questions among the gaming community about the potential impact of in-game advertisements on the player experience and whether such occurrences are truly accidental or part of a broader marketing strategy. As players await further clarification from Ubisoft, the unintentional Black Friday sales pitch within the realm of Assassin's Creed has certainly added an unexpected twist to the gaming landscape.
