Street Fighter 6 sales have surpassed 2 million

Capcom has announced that the total worldwide sales of the fighting action game Street Fighter 6 have surpassed 2 million. The total sales of the Street Fighter series have now exceeded 50 million. Street Fighter 6 was released on June 2nd for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.

In an interview with Famitsu, President Haruhiro Tsujimoto was asked about the impact of expanding the scope of the game and making the series more appealing to new audiences on development costs.

Tsujimoto, stating that the Street Fighter series is their flagship, mentioned that their goal is to sell 10 million copies;

"In the past few years, many games in the Resident Evil series have sold over 10 million copies, and the Monster Hunter series now has games aiming for 20 million copies. Street Fighter 5 has already sold over 7 million copies, so if we can leverage our digital sales experience, we can aim for 10 million copies with the next game."

Street Fighter 5 holds the position of being the best-selling game in the series, and the company aims to raise the record even higher.
Digital copies play a crucial role in boosting publishers' sales. Tsujimoto explains the change compared to the past as follows:

"Before digital versions became widespread, most of our games were sold as boxed copies in stores. However, due to shelf efficiency, we could only send enough copies that could be sold in about six months. This meant that after that period, even if we wanted to, we couldn't continue selling the game. In the past few years, purchasing from digital stores has become more common."

Additionally, this week, Capcom announced the first DLC fighter for Street Fighter 6, which will be released on July 24th. The DLC fighter is named Rashid.
