Sinking City removed from Steam again!

In June 2019, the highly anticipated game called The Sinking City in the genre of H.P Lovecraft developed by "Frogwares", the investigation game was officially resumed on Steam, as it did several times.

In the case where Nacon, one of the distributors of the game, was accused of piracy, the Steam version was allegedly released illegally without permission from its developers. Although the reason for this is not known exactly, it has been argued that such a situation has arisen due to several disputes and tensions between the publisher and the developer since 2019. After the tension between them, the publisher named "Nacon" hacked the unfinished version of the game and presented it to Steam in a pirated way. Frogware, the developer of the game, made the following statement on the subject after the events:

“The video we will present to you shows how our former licensee NACON cracked and hacked our game The Sinking City on February 26, 2021, modified the code and content of our game, and illegally uploaded it to Steam to commercialize it under its own name. Without our knowledge. Some of you may have heard of the problems we have had in the past. This last move severely injured us. Here's a step-by-step summary of how a French broadcaster stole, got hacked, changed its source code, and tried to cover its reporting track. Corporate bullying at its best. ”

In short, the ropes are stretched between the two companies. The tension between them has been continuing since 2019 and their trials are still ongoing. While the game was removed from most platforms, the most talked about was Steam. The main reason for the removal of the game from most platforms was that the publisher bought its sales from major retailers, alleging that its intellectual property was misused.

The game directly assured the sellers of the retailers they work with; Gamesplanet, Nintendo and Origin. In the meantime, Frogwares accused the NACON company of "defamation in the public eye" and took legal action against them.

Even after these events, Sinking City, which appeared on Steam and was offered to us with a 60% discount until March 3, created a question mark in people. The publisher argued that the version of the game released on Steam was not theirs, it was purchased from Gamesplanet, hacked and uploaded to Steam under their own name. While the case is still hot, we will see what awaits NACON and Frogwares in the future. Also for those who want to look, Sinking City is currently available on Nintendo Switch and XBOX One. It is expected to be announced to PS4 soon.
